BRIC is an unemployed people’s centre based in the heart of Blyth whose aim is to support adult individuals within SE Northumberland. BRIC delivers a holistic approach in supporting individuals with practical advice and guidance, helping to tackle diverse issues and delivering provision that enhances and develops social skills, life skills and confidence. BRIC’s services fall into the following categories: Education and well-being, Employment support, Group activities and a Drop-in service.
We address many social issues outside of our own expertise that our clients have been faced with through partnership work with other local organisations. Within our own commitment to service users, we are able to provide a wider support service to enable people to make significant and positive differences to their lives, improve their skills, abilities and mental health by providing opportunities to form positive networks and friendships therefore enabling service users to become a more active member of their community. There were approximately 1900 visits to BRIC last year with 120 new Clients registering to seek various types of support, to access our facilities, and to attend courses and projects. The age range of the service users is 16 – 93 years old. We assisted over 33 people gain employment, 20 people gain a functional skills qualification and 30 people achieve a non-accredited Level 1 understanding in digital skills. Mainly operating from Blyth, and covering SE Northumberland, we have a reach as far as Hexham through the Solid Foundations Northumberland project.
